People with assistance dogs, including guide dog owners, are still being turned away from services they have every right to use, including shops, cafes, and taxis. In fact, 88% of guide dog owners have been wrongly refused access to a business or service – some of them repeatedly.
These refusals aren’t just an inconvenience. They stop people from getting to work, attending appointments, or enjoying events with family and friends. Over time, repeated experiences of discrimination can damage people’s confidence, deterring some from leaving the house altogether.
With a new Prime Minister in power, we have an opportunity right now to push for real change. Will you add your name to this petition?
“Dear Prime Minister,
Despite existing legal protections, assistance dog owners continue to be wrongly turned away from businesses and services, including shops, cafes, and pubs. And when their access rights are ignored, seeking justice can be costly, time-consuming, and often overwhelming.
The current system is simply not working. Assistance dog owners deserve rules that work in practice, which is why we are calling on your Government to make the law clearer and improve access to justice."
